Game Rules
- High School Federation Rules will govern play
- Stop Clock Games
- Mercy Rule : When a team’s lead has exceeded 25 points, the clock runs
- Officials & Scorekeepers do not have the authority to “run the clock” unless the Mercy Rule is in effect
- 1 and 1 on 7th foul
- bonus on 10th foul
- 5 x 30 second time outs per game
- 1 extra 30 second time out per overtime session plus any unused from regulation play
- Timeout duration will be strictly enforced
- player disqualification on 5th foul
- 1 minute halftime.
- 1 minute overtimes
- 3 minute warm up time between games
- Pressing + zones allowed at every level unless both coaches agree to change before game.
- All referees decisions are final. No protests!
Game Time Rules
When events are organized by GRADE
3rd, 4th, 5th,6th, 7th,8th grade - 14 minute STOP TIME halves
9th,10th,11th,12th grade - 16 minute STOP TIME halves
When events are organized by Age
10,11,12,13,14 year olds - 14 minute STOP TIME halves
15, 16, 17, 18 year olds - 16 minute STOP TIME halves
Game Operation
- Tournament provides clock operator & score keeper.
- One of two competing teams can provide a score keeper to be the official book. Both coaches must agree if a team provides the official scorer.
- Teams must provide their own basketballs. Referees will choose most suitable game ball between 2 competing teams.
- New Jersey State high school 28.5" sized basketball will be used in all girls divisions and all boys divisions, except boys 13 and older.
- In younger boys divisions both competing coaches can agree to use a regulation sized ball but this decision must be mutually agreeable
Tiebreaker Rules
AAU tiebreaker rules are in effect when necessary to determine pool champions.
- Head on head where 2 teams involved.
- +15 / -15 where 3 teams involved.
Forfeits
- Forfeit time is 10 minutes after game time. At referee's discretion, time outs and / or halftime may be eliminated for games not starting on time. The late team will be penalized first. If both teams are late, both will be penalized.
- A forfeit is a 15-point win / loss for the 2 teams involved.
Tournament Formats
Pool Play Format – 3+ Game Guarantee
4 team division
In 4 team divisions, after 3 games are played, the team with the best record / tie breaker points is the champion.
6 team division - ( 2 pools of 3 teams each )
In 6 team divisions ( 2 pools of 3 teams each ) after the first two pool games are played, each team is seeded first, second or third, based upon results. The matchup between first place seeded teams is the championship game.
8 team division - ( 2 pools of 4 teams each )
In 8 team divisions, ( 2 pools of 4 teams each ) after 3 games are played, the winners of each pool advance to the division championship game.
3+ - means that an Extra Game, a Championship crossover game will be played in all matched competitive age groups of 8 teams or more.
Jamboree Format – 2+ game guarantee
4 team division
- First Round – team 1 plays team 2 & team 3 plays team 4
- Second Round – first round winners play for championship & first round losers play consolation
6 team division - ( 2 pools of 3 teams each )
- First Round – team 1 vs team 2, team 1 vs team 3, team 2 vs team 3
- Second Round - after first round play, each team is seeded first, second or third, based upon results. The two first place seeded teams play in the championship game.
8 team division - ( 2 pools of 4 teams each )
- First Round – team 1 plays team 2 & team 3 plays team 4 in each pool
- Second Round – first round winners play in each pool & first round losers play in pool consolation
- Championship Round – each pool winner from second round plays for championship
2+ - means that an Extra Game, a Championship crossover game will be played in all matched competitive age groups of 6 teams or more.
Championship Awards
- Individual tournament championship t-shirt awards are given to each player on each championship team (limited to 12 per team)
